Experienced Female Scottsdale Psychiatrist Marie Gronley MD
Are you searching for an experienced female psychiatrist in Scottsdale? One of the most important goals of my practice is to inform those suffering from a mental health condition of the origins, treatments, and discoveries in mental health. Mental illnesses are no different from most other bodily illnesses. With all psychiatric conditions either the brain, inflammation, or another organ or neurological issue is preventing the body from producing and maintaining a balance among neurotransmitters which are responsible for our moods. In many cases even our very thoughts, our ability to think clearly can be affected by these imbalances.
Sometimes a glandular condition may cause a plethora or deficiency of hormones and produce the symptoms of depression, mood swings, or anxiety; this is why we often do a physiological work-up as part of our initial evaluation. When these chemicals are not present in the body for long enough periods of time due to cellular release, or too much of one chemical, often the end result is depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia; and other mental illnesses. Read about the primary mental health disorders.
My Treatment Approach
As a psychiatrist I take the approach that the better informed the patient is, the more effective the treatment can be. I have posted many pages on depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and schizophrenia. These articles explain the causes, treatments, and prognoses for each condition. Additionally, I often attempt to give advice as to how certain lifestyle changes can aid in the recovery and mitigation of the symptoms of these illnesses; and how very important treatment is to protecting the brain and nervous system from any further damage that can be caused by these some of these illnesses.
You will be fascinated with the progress in genetics that are being made to which will someday provide a cure mental illness. I want you to know that help is just around the corner and remember, first and foremost mental illness is no less a physical illness as any other diseased organ of the body and there is absolutely no reason to feel the least bit of shame in seeking treatment.
Professional Experience
I have been in practice since 1997. I Earned a B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Illinois, at Champaign-Urbana. Graduated from medical school at the University of Illinois in Peoria IL. and received my M.D. degree which qualifies me as a General Practitioner. I went on to successfully complete a four-year residency in Psychiatry from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis MO at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 1997.
This residency program was among the top 25 programs in the nation. Immediately after residency I relocated to Phoenix and I have been practicing psychiatry in Scottsdale and Phoenix ever since. I take several hours of continuing education every year, and read an abundance of research studies in order to stay on top of the latest trends and treatments in my field.
Institutional Experience
I have worked with the State of Arizona Mental Health Services which was at the time under the management of Value Options. During this time, I worked with the severely mentally ill on an A.C.T. team consisting of a group of social workers, disability assistants, and registered nurses. Our goal was to treat the patients’ illnesses and get them re-integrated into society so they could live fulfilling lives and enjoy a life outside of the traditional in-patient hospital domain that used to be the norm with this patient population.
I have worked in several private practices and have had my own practice in Scottsdale since 2001. I enjoy the team approach to healing because it allows my clients to benefit from the professionalism of several practitioners instead of one doctor attempting to be all things to all people. Therefore, I work closely with other medical specialists including: Gynecologists, Neurologists, Dermatologists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Nutritionists as well as Primary Care Physicians and Clergy.
After years of clinical experience, I have developed the discernment which greatly assists me in diagnosing and offering the best treatment for the most positive prognosis in dealing with each individual in my practice. This allows me to work together with the patient in finding an effective treatment plan that is comfortable for them. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of my clinical experience that I have developed since 1997 while being mentored by some of the top-docs in the field of psychiatry! If you are searching for a competent psychiatrist in Scottsdale? Please consider experience, compassion, and discernment as top qualifications in your selection process.
